Short answer
The high-speed rail is the backbone of a work trip: Hsinchu HSR Station is in Zhubei, one stop from HSR Taoyuan (for the airport) and a short ride from Taipei. Stay near the HSR station if you're in and out quickly, near the Science Park or the city centre if you're staying longer. Use taxis or ride-hailing for the last few kilometres: there's no metro.
Most business visitors to Hsinchu are headed for Hsinchu Science Park, the universities beside it, or offices in Zhubei. The one thing to get right: Hsinchu HSR Station is in Zhubei, in Hsinchu County, not in Hsinchu City, and it's about 10 km from Hsinchu TRA Station in the city centre. When a host says "Hsinchu Station", ask which. → HSR to Hsinchu and Zhubei
Arriving
From Taoyuan Airport
- Airport MRT and HSR. Take the Taoyuan Airport MRT from the terminal to A18 HSR Taoyuan Station, then the HSR south one stop to Hsinchu. This is the most predictable route, and it avoids freeway traffic.
- By car. Taxis, ride-hailing and hotel cars run from the airport; hotel transfers are paid and booked ahead (the Sheraton Hsinchu, for example, publishes its rates). The freeway is fast off-peak and slow at rush hour.
From Taipei
The HSR from Taipei Main Station or Banqiao to Hsinchu is the easy choice. Check times and fares on the THSR site and reserve a seat if you travel at busy times. → Taipei and the airport

- Taxis At the station, operated by Metro Taxi (0800-000943, or 55178 from a mobile).
- To the city by train The 2nd-floor corridor leads to TRA Liujia Station. Liujia Line trains reach Hsinchu TRA Station in 19 minutes, NT$24 (November 2026).
- Buses Several routes, including the 182, run from the HSR station past Hsinchu Science Park and the universities to Beida Bridge in the city. The 5900 goes to TRA Zhubei Station.
- Car rental Carplus and Hotai Leasing (HLC) have counters.
- Parking From NT$50 an hour, first 30 minutes free (rates from 15 September 2026).
Getting to the office
Hsinchu Science Park is one park in a wider system: the main Hsinchu site straddles East District in Hsinchu City and Baoshan in Hsinchu County, and the Science Park Bureau also runs other sites, including the Biomedical Science Park next to the HSR station. Check the exact site and gate on your invitation, and give the taxi driver the address in Chinese.
- From the HSR station to the main park: a taxi or ride-hailing car is simplest. Bus 182 and the other Beida Bridge routes stop at the Science Park, which works if your office is near a stop.
- From a city hotel: taxi, or ask your host about company shuttles.
- Rush hour: the roads into the park are slow at the morning and evening rush. Allow extra time for a morning meeting.

Where to stay
For one or two nights in and out by HSR, stay in Zhubei by the HSR station: AJ Hotel is a two-minute walk from exit 2, and the Sheraton Hsinchu runs a free shuttle from exit 4. For meetings in the park or at the universities, look at Guangfu Road and Daxue Road in East District. For evenings out, stay near Hsinchu TRA Station. → Where to stay in Hsinchu
Eating after work
Zhubei's restaurants cluster around the HSR district and Guangming Road; Hsinchu City has the deeper choice, from Hakka food to the MICHELIN Guide picks of 2026, and the snack stalls around the City God Temple, which is where to take a visitor for Hsinchu rice noodles (米粉) and meatballs (貢丸). → Where to eat in Zhubei · Where to eat in Hsinchu City · Night markets
A free evening or half-day
- An evening in the old city. Walk from Hsinchu TRA Station to the East Gate and along the lit moat park, then on to the City God Temple for dinner at the stalls. The Image Museum on Zhongzheng Road is open until 21:00 Friday to Sunday. → Things to do in Hsinchu
- Sunset at the coast. Nanliao Fishing Harbor is a short taxi ride from the city centre, with a sea wall to walk at dusk. → The coast
- Near the HSR station. The Xinwawu Hakka village park in Liujia, about 1.5 km from the HSR station, is open all year.
- A half-day out. Neiwan by train: Liujia Line to Zhuzhong and the Neiwan Line up the valley, about an hour each way. → Neiwan
Practical
- Cash and cards. Hotels, malls and chain restaurants take cards. Small eateries, market stalls and some taxis expect cash, so carry some New Taiwan dollars.
- An EasyCard (悠遊卡) or iPASS (一卡通). A stored-value card pays for local trains, buses and the tourist shuttles, and some museums. Buy and top it up at convenience stores.
- Mobile data. Get a local SIM or an eSIM plan before you rely on maps, ride-hailing and LINE, the messaging app most people here use for work.
- Taxis and ride-hailing. Uber runs in Hsinchu, including local taxis booked through the app. Have your destination written in Chinese.
- Convenience stores. 7-Eleven and FamilyMart are everywhere: coffee, breakfast, ATMs, card top-ups and bill payments.
- Weather. Hsinchu is windy, especially from autumn to spring. Bring a jacket. → The weather
